As part of the Listen, Learn, Ask Growth Conversation Series hosted by the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA)’s Work and Organizational Division, Kathy Miller, MAPP, MBA, ACC and Xaviera Diaz, MAPP recently led an interactive keynote session focused on Inclusive Excellence: Fostering Success for People Living with Disabilities.

A key theme of the session was the connection between self-determination—living as one’s authentic self—and the ability to truly thrive. Historically, individuals with disabilities have often been denied the opportunity to self-determine, with assumptions about their capabilities leading to important choices being made on their behalf.

The session encouraged attendees to pause and reflect—not only on their own preferences, goals, and passions, but also to get genuinely curious about those around them. The presenters emphasized the importance of catching assumptions early, building authentic connections, and creating opportunities for autonomy and strengths-based support.
